GM Defense recently hosted leaders from the Congressional Medal of Honor Society at its Manufacturing and Customer Innovation Center (MCIC) in Concord, North Carolina.
At the event, leaders of the Congressional Medal of Honor Society, including four Medal of Honor Recipients, participated in a flag raising ceremony and tours of the MCIC and of GM’s Charlotte Technical Center. GM Defense showcased its light tactical utility vehicle and offered a test drive of the Army’s Infantry Squad Vehicle based on the Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 and the U.S. Government’s first ever OEM-integrated Heavy-Duty Sport Utility Vehicle. Leaders also got behind the wheel of the Chevrolet Corvette Stingray and the GMC HUMMER EV. GM Defense teammate Hendrick Motorsports hosted the group for lunch and a tour of their Heritage Center.
“We’re incredibly proud that four Medal of Honor Recipients, whose acts of valor and heroism spanned from the Vietnam War to the Global War on Terror, raised the colors of our nation for the first time over our Concord, North Carolina, facility,” said Steve duMont, president of GM Defense. “We’re humbled by the presence of the Congressional Medal of Honor Society and by the courage and sacrifice of the four Recipients of our nation's highest military award for valor. Their participation at our MCIC event is a source of great inspiration for our team, as we work every day to provide the best capability for the brave men and women in uniform who protect our freedom.”
"As President of the Congressional Medal of Honor Society, it is an honor to visit GM Defense and witness firsthand their commitment to supporting the men and women who serve our nation,” said Britt Slabinski, Medal of Honor Recipient, president of the CMOHS board of directors. “Seeing the cutting-edge technology and innovation being developed here to enhance the safety and effectiveness of our military is truly inspiring. We deeply appreciate GM Defense’s ongoing support of the Society’s mission to honor and preserve the legacy of those who have received the Medal of Honor and of all who wear the uniform.”
Chartered by Congress in 1958, the Society is dedicated to preserving the legacy of the Medal of Honor, inspiring America to live the values the Medal represents, and supporting Recipients of the Medal as they connect with communities across America.
