Work smarter, not harder: GM launches OnStar Fleet Intelligence platform

2026-09-30

At General Motors, we are building what matters: vehicles and solutions that our customers rely on for their design, quality, safety, and performance. But we also know that for our fleet customers, the vehicle is just the beginning. Whether you are managing a handful of work trucks or a growing regional delivery fleet, time is your most valuable asset. To help overcome these obstacles and streamline fleet management, GM recently launched the OnStar Fleet Intelligence1 platform.

Managed through a single account, this easy-to-access platform leverages vehicle data and GM’s ecosystem of connected services to combine asset productivity, efficiency, risk management, and total operating cost into one unified system.

“Our fleet customers need simple, intuitive tools to manage their vehicles and efficiently manage operating costs," said Ian Hucker, vice president, GM Fleet. "The OnStar Fleet Intelligence1 platform meets this need head-on, streamlining complex data into one accessible dashboard so business owners can focus less on administrative hurdles and more on efficiently scaling their operations."

All-in-One Access

Fleet operators need transparency and intuitive tools, not complicated processes. The OnStar Fleet Intelligence platform delivers by providing a single access point to manage the entire fleet relationship. Within the platform, users can seamlessly renew OnStar software and services and connect vehicles. Additionally, this unified view allows fleet owners and managers to track orders, manage vehicles, and access essential information, from diagnostic data like fuel efficiency and range, to geofencing and vehicle protection.

For customers large enough to have a Fleet Account Number (FAN) it can easily be linked to the account, enabling management of all vehicles listed under that FAN, regardless of make, equipment, or OnStar plan, with one login.

Business owners and fleet managers have a lot on their plate, and it is easy to miss trends while running the day-to-day operations. The OnStar Fleet Intelligence platform turns fleet data into proactive insights helping fleet owners and managers optimize performance, reduce downtime and plan ahead.

“More than 30 years ago OnStar revolutionized the connected vehicle; combining human support with tech to deliver real-world impact,” said Arnie Magnotta, vice president, OnStar Services & Digital Commerce. “This new platform builds on that legacy of innovation to transform fleet management, turn data into insights, and help our customers grow and scale their businesses.”

Built into the platform is Fleet Insights, intended to help fleet managers find patterns that might otherwise go unnoticed if they only look at one vehicle or report at a time. For example, a fleet manager can analyze why fuel costs are rising and look for trends across vehicles, routes and drivers. This helps them determine what changes will have the greatest impact on lowering fuel costs.

Taking this a step further, GM introduced the OnStar Fleet AI Assistant which is built into the platform, giving fleet managers the tools they need to transition from reactive firefighters to proactive decision-makers. The Fleet AI Assistant reduces manual analysis and reporting, delivering instant answers via natural language queries—ultimately helping to improve vehicle utilization and lowering costs.

For example, using natural language, a fleet manager can simply ask the AI Assistant – “show total idling time for each vehicle this month,” or “show which are my most utilized vehicles and which are my least.” The AI Assistant will quickly display the information, reducing the time spent on manual analysis. Now fleet managers can more easily spot trends and potentially find opportunities to increase efficiency.
