Ultium Cells Warren celebrates 100 millionth EV battery cell produced
2024-12-10
Every day, in Warren, Ohio and Spring Hill, Tennessee, the team at Ultium Cells, a joint venture between LG Energy Solution and General Motors, is powering the shift to an all-electric future. There, in our joint venture manufacturing plants, Ultium Cells produces millions of battery cells with precision and quality – the building blocks of the battery systems powering General Motors’ diverse and growing portfolio of electric vehicles. Today, the pouch battery cells produced at these facilities go into everything from the all-electric Cadillac Lyriq luxury SUV to the powerful GMC Hummer EV, giving customers greater choice and access to EV technology.
That’s why it was so special for us to be in Warren to celebrate the team behind Ultium Cells’ latest achievement: the 100 millionth battery cell produced at the Ultium Cells Warren plant.
Walking the floor of the Ultium Cells Warren facility, you can see how and why we’ve been able to establish an electrification powerhouse in concert with our joint venture partner, LG Energy Solution.
Our joint venture blends the best technology and manufacturing processes with a talented and dedicated workforce. In fact, Ultium Cells has established itself as one of the largest manufacturers of battery cells in North America – showcasing how American innovation and manufacturing powers the future of mobility.
Over 14 years, the technology partnership between GM and LG Energy Solution has played a key role in enabling our strategy to deliver greater EV performance, choice, and value to customers. Innovative battery technologies like the ones produced at Ultium Cells Warren form the foundation of this strategy.
Building on the progress we’ve made together in Warren and across the Ultium Cells joint venture, we’re now going even further, extending our technology partnership with LG Energy Solution to jointly develop prismatic cells. This marks a new phase in our relationship as we work towards delivering even greater value, performance, and choice to EV customers through multiple battery cell chemistries and form factors.
This week, we mark a major achievement in our electrification journey with the 100 millionth battery cell produced at Ultium Cells Warren. As we celebrate, we’re still charging forward, embracing the best of what’s possible through our collaboration.
