‘Tis the season: Toronto and San Diego power up holiday trees with a Chevy Silverado EV
2024-12-12
Your Chevrolet Silverado EV can do more than just transport your holiday tree home. You can also use it to make the tree shine.
In a demonstration of that possibility, the city of Toronto recently used the battery power from a Chevrolet Silverado EV RST to illuminate a towering holiday tree in bustling Sankofa Square – kicking off the Canadian city’s annual Winter Glow holiday carnival while highlighting the impressive power from the truck’s available PowerBase feature.
The Silverado EV was the star of the show, with Santa climbing behind the wheel of the truck, turning it on and illuminating the 30-foot tall Rotary Club Tree of Remembrance in front of a crowd that included GM Canada’s VP of sales, service, and marketing, Shane Peever.
“As GM's electric vehicle sales continue to accelerate, lighting the 30-foot Rotary Club Tree with the battery power of our Chevrolet Silverado EV shines a light on GM's lineup of electric vehicles,” Peever said. “It's an inspiring way to celebrate a historic 2024 and showcase the bright future of electric mobility.”
The ability to power the tree comes from the Silverado EV RST’s 205 kWh battery, as well as its available PowerBase feature with built-in external outlets. PowerBase and its 120V and 240V outlets can be used to plug in electronics and power tools, or even to charge another EV.
Spreading cheer from coast to coast
The Silverado EV RST also used its impressive battery power to illuminate an even larger 88-foot holiday tree all the way on the other side of the continent. Available PowerBase was used to illuminate the towering holiday tree at Liberty Station in the southern Californian city of San Diego during its recent holiday tree lighting event, showcasing the technology in a key U.S. EV market.
