For OnStar, following Santa’s journey has been a beloved tradition for 16 years. Collaborating with NORAD, the North American Aerospace Defense Command), OnStar provides real-time updates throughout Santa’s annual flight. To date, OnStar has located Santa over 100,000 times, bringing joy to families across the US, Canada, and Mexico.
This year, families can push the magic blue OnStar button in their Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, or GMC vehicles to follow Santa’s journey on Christmas Eve – and this year, they can even talk to Santa himself!
How to connect with Santa, now through Christmas Eve:
- Push the magic blue OnStar button: Through December 24, families with an active OnStar plan can learn what Santa is up to and talk to him directly by pushing the blue OnStar button in their GM vehicles. On Christmas Eve, customers can ask for Santa’s location while he travels around the world.
- Find him on the OnStar Guardian app: Use the OnStar Guardian smartphone app to follow Santa’s location when you’re away from your car. Just open the Guardian app and click on the Santa hat icon to get started.
- Not an active OnStar member? Click here to activate your account today, so you can stay updated on Santa’s location in real time!
Sharing makes the holidays brighter!
- For every OnStar request to follow Santa, OnStar will donate $1 to the American Red Cross (up to $30,000 US and up to $5,000 to the Canadian Red Cross in Canada).
What if Santa’s sleigh got a GM Technology makeover?
Come Christmas Eve, Santa Claus readies his reindeer and embarks on a one-night journey delivering toys to children all over the world. But what if St. Nick’s sleigh was powered by GM’s advanced software and high-tech batteries? We think these upgrades would make Christmas Eve more comfy and convenient for the reindeer and for Kris Kringle himself.
If Santa’s sleigh was equipped with GM’s built-in infotainment system, he could rely on a perfectly optimized Christmas EVe route, stopping at every chimney right on time. The navigation system could analyze variables like flying style (Dasher’s speed versus Blitzen’s power), weather conditions and more, providing updates to his route in real time for faster, more efficient gift delivery. And it could show him which parts of his route are equipped with Super Cruise1 hands-free driver assistance technology, for a relaxing ride across the U.S., Canada and China.
GM’s native infotainment system has all the tools Santa needs for his round-the-world Christmas Eve journey. With built-in music apps, Santa could even listen to his favorite Christmas tunes and holiday podcasts while spreading joy to children around the world.
If he ran into any trouble on his journey, Santa could simply press the blue OnStar button to get immediate help from an OnStar advisor. If the reindeer got lost, OnStar could provide turn-by-turn navigation, and in-sleigh Wi-Fi could help Santa stay connected on the go.
Plus, an EV battery system could power St. Nick’s navigation and sound systems, and provide energy for both heating and headlights when it’s too dark and stormy to rely on Rudolph’s red nose.
Santa and his sleigh bring magic, wonder and the joy of giving to families around the world. GM works every day to put a little bit of that magic into everything we make. From all of us at General Motors, we wish you a warm, wonderful holiday season.
