Chevrolet joined Major League Baseball for the historic game this past weekend at the Bristol Motor Speedway between the Atlanta Braves and the Cincinnati Reds, which the Braves won 4-2.
Started on Saturday, suspended by a steady rain, and then resumed on Sunday, the “Speedway Classic” game attracted 91,032 fans to the motor sports venue. That’s a higher total than at any other regular season game in MLB history – and the first regular season MLB game to ever be played in the state of Tennessee.
Fun with the Fan Zone
Chevrolet, in its role as the official vehicle of Major League Baseball, had a multi-layered presence at the game, including a Chevy-themed activation in the Speedway Classic Fan Zone.
The Fan Zone activation included a variety of activities:
- Bat against the machine: We showed off a one-of-a-kind 1966 Chevrolet Chevelle retrofitted as a V-8 powered pitching machine, with the ability to throw 99 mph – making it one of the fastest pitching machines ever built.
- Meet Mash: Mascots are a big part of the baseball experience. For this game only, Chevy created a baseball-inspired Chevy mascot called Mash as the perfect combination of baseball, racing, and Chevrolet.
- Exclusive merch: Chevrolet collaborated with ‘47 to create a limited supply of Speedway Classic exclusive t-shirts and caps being sold on-site.
"Summer brings people together through activities we all like to do. Whether it's a concert, a ball game or going to a race,” said Steve Majoros, Chevrolet’s chief marketing officer. “These are all passions that have long aligned with Chevrolet. We are happy to have partnered with Anomaly, our creative agency, in bringing these ideas to life in a meaningful way."
