Chevy Silverado EV Work Truck with Max Range battery has more range than any other EV, Edmunds test finds

2025-05-09

The editorial team at Edmunds maintains a list of the electric vehicles with the longest range. They compile this list not by simply repeating the EPA-tested range provided by General Motors and other automakers, but instead by testing the vehicles on a full charge. And this week, the list has a new leader: the Chevrolet Silverado EV Work Truck.

According to Edmunds, they drove a Silverado EV Work Truck with a Max Range battery pack for 539 miles on a full charge, which is 47 miles over its EPA-estimated range of 492 miles on a full charge1. Note that the actual range consumers achieve will vary based on multiple factors, including ambient temperature, terrain, battery age and condition, loading, and how you use and maintain your vehicle.

Edmunds wasn’t trying to max out the range but instead tried to simulate actual usage patterns. They aimed for a mix of 60% city and 40% highway driving, with an average speed of 40 MPH. They started from Edmunds HQ in Santa Monica, California, and stayed within 5 mph of all posted speed limits, returning to the office with 7 miles of range remaining.

“The EV Work Truck blew past its estimate, officially setting a new Edmunds record,” they wrote this week. Edmunds noted further, “539 miles on a single charge is the best figure we've seen to date, and it might be a while before another vehicle comes close to that hitting that number.”

This is not the first time that a GM full-size electric truck has outperformed expectations on the Edmunds test. Their test of the 2025 GMC Sierra EV Denali resulted in 507 miles of range, above our EPA-estimated range of 460 miles2; the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV RST, with an EPA-estimated range of 450 miles, lasted 484 miles in its Edmunds test. And the 2023 GMC Hummer EV, with an EPA-estimated range of 329 miles, went 390 miles when tested by Edmunds.

Edmunds notes that the Silverado EV RST and Sierra EV Denali share the same battery pack as the Silverado EV Work Truck, but their actual and estimated range figures are lower due to added weight from premium features like large screens, bigger wheels, and leather upholstery, all of which reduce efficiency.

1EPA-estimated range is based on a full charge. Actual range may vary based on several factors, including ambient temperature, terrain, battery age and condition, loading, and how you use and maintain your vehicle.

2MSRP excludes tax, title, license, dealer fees and optional equipment. Dealer sets final price.

3Available on model year 2025 WT. Based on preliminary GM testing. May require optional trailering equipment to achieve maximum capacity.
