On the road again: Discovering America with GM
2025-05-30
Every summer, millions of Americans pack up the car, hit the highway, and set out on road trips to see family, visit friends, and discover our country’s iconic national parks, beaches, mountains, cities, and historic sites. Americans have been road-tripping for more than a century, often in cars, trucks, and SUVs from General Motors.
This week, GM was proud to participate in the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Great American Road Trip Expo, a public event at the agency’s offices in Washington, D.C., featuring leaders from the auto, travel, and leisure industries providing tips and inspiration for the coming summer travel season.
As part of the event, GM showcased how our broad portfolio aims to offer a vehicle for everyone, for every trip. Travelers can take backroads like the iconic Route 66; explore the Pacific Coast Highway; cross the heartland on I-80; or simply move cross-country in a packed truck, their belongings in tow. GM has many options for drivers, with both gas-powered and EV options, at a wide range of price points.
“To love America is to see America; there are so many great things to see in this country,” Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said before the event, reminiscing about family road trips from his childhood and now with his children. “Not only do you see your country, but you also get really great quality time as a family.”
As Americans embrace the spirit of the open road, GM's vehicles offer features to keep travelers safe, entertained, and comfortable.
• Going camping? The Chevrolet Silverado EV’s Multi-flex Tailgate and Midgate can expand the truck bed, potentially allowing you to bring along your kayak or canoe.
• Long highway drive? Available Super Cruise driver assistance technology can make the ride convenient with hands-free driving on compatible roads1, while Driver Attention Assist can provide alerts if the system detects the driver of a vehicle equipped with the feature may not be paying attention to the road ahead.
• Run out of gas or need a tire change? OnStar-equipped vehicles with an active plan can help provide roadside assistance2.
• Kids getting bored? Many GM vehicles offer a rich onboard infotainment system, that includes music, audiobooks, and Wi-Fi connectivity.3
The Expo also underscored GM’s long-standing dedication to the nation’s economy. We employ more Americans than any other automaker, with the most vehicle assembly plants in the U.S. All the GM vehicles on display at the Expo were assembled in America4, at plants in Michigan, Indiana, Tennessee, Texas, and Kentucky. GM contributed nearly $40 billion to U.S. GDP in 2023, with every direct GM job supporting 6.3 additional American jobs.
GM remains focused on making great cars and trucks like the vehicles at today’s Expo, driving jobs, technology, innovation – and helping Americans enjoy unforgettable summer road trips.
