General Motors brings holiday cheer to Detroit and beyond
2025-11-21
The holidays are here, and General Motors is celebrating at home in Detroit and all across the country.
Inspired by the cherished traditions of the historic J.L. Hudson’s department store, today GM is unveiling its holiday windows at Hudson’s Detroit. The displays along Woodward Avenue were created by GM Design, inviting visitors to discover how heritage meets innovation this holiday season.
One of the windows is dedicated to celebrating GM’s history, featuring iconic heritage vehicles like a split-window 1963 Corvette Stingray, the 1948 Chevrolet 3600 Series pickup and the 1959 Cadillac Cyclone concept car in a festive winter scene. The other window display showcases the innovation that powers GM today, including a Cadillac CELESTIQ, Corvette E-Ray, and GMC HUMMER EV.

During the Detroit Tree Lighting ceremony, a selection of festive lighting along Nick Gilbert Way will be plugged into a Chevrolet Silverado EV, harnessing its Offboard Power system to illuminate trees with holiday cheer. Beginning on November 21st, visitors to the Hudson’s holiday window display can also scan a QR code to access a special augmented-reality interactive experience.

No matter where you are, you can experience the magic of the holidays with GM and OnStar’s “Follow Santa” activation. Now in its 17th year, OnStar makes it possible for families to track Santa Claus’s journey around the globe. From December 17th through 23rd, customers in the U.S., Canada and Mexico with an active OnStar plan can press the blue button in their vehicle or use the Guardian app to talk to Santa, and this year, families can also ask to hear a Christmas story. On Christmas Eve, customers can press the blue OnStar button in their vehicles to get real-time updates on Santa’s location from NORAD (the North American Aerospace Defense Command).
During the holidays, good cheer means giving back. Every time a family pushes the OnStar blue button or opens the Guardian app to check on Santa, GM will donate one dollar to the American Red Cross – up to $30,000 in addition to our annual support for their disaster relief program. GM also supports Michigan families in need throughout the holidays through charitable partnerships and local engagement. GM employees will collect gifts for children in foster care, as part of Child and Family Charities Operation Good Cheer. GM is committed to providing every enrolled child with at least one gift that encourages learning in science, technology, engineering, the arts, and mathematics.
