Cars.com names Chevy Equinox Top Pick: Value EV; Silverado wins Top Pick: EV Pickup Truck

The 2025 Chevrolet Equinox EV was named Top Pick: Value EV for 2026 by the car-shopping marketplace Cars.com. The site also named the 2026 Chevrolet Silverado EV as the Top Pick: EV Pickup Truck.
“The federal EV tax credit helped make EVs more affordable, and while its expiration at the end of September may slow demand in the short term, it doesn’t mean the end of affordable EVs,” said Aaron Bragman, Detroit Bureau Chief at Cars.com. “Shoppers are moving quickly to lock in savings … there are strong options for every type of buyer.”
Bragman also noted that even after federal tax credits expire on September 30, many state and local incentives will remain.
Cars.com said its automotive experts chose their top EV picks based on “their range, affordability, family-friendliness and technological innovation.” All of those qualities, Cars.com said, “stand out as consumers weigh purchase decisions in a shifting market.”
“These awards mean a lot, not just because they highlight range, capability and value, but because they show that we’re delivering on our mission: building EVs that customers can count on,” said Scott Bell, vice president of Chevrolet. “Whether that’s a truck that can go nearly 500 miles and still handle the toughest jobs or a crossover that makes EV ownership more accessible than ever at under $35,000, the Silverado EV and Equinox EV are delivering.”
Cars.com noted that the Chevrolet Equinox EV offers a combination of affordability, long range, and appealing styling. “If you’re interested in a good EV that won’t break the bank, you should look at the Chevrolet Equinox EV,” Cars.com wrote. “This sleekly styled compact SUV has a starting price of just under $35,000, and that’s before any tax credits or incentives are factored in.”
For the Silverado EV, Cars.com took note of the pickup’s long EV range, maneuverability, and towing capacity, among other things.
“Range anxiety is not something that should be much of a concern for Chevrolet Silverado EV drivers,” Cars.com wrote. “This full-size electric pickup truck offers a choice of three battery sizes, with the largest Max Range pack manufacturer-rated up to 493 miles of range on a full charge from the incredibly large 205 kilowatt-hour battery. And with up to 350-kW DC fast-charging capability for the Max battery pack, you can replenish range reasonably quickly when charging away from home.”
The Cars.com review adds that the Silverado offers “capability that truck shoppers expect,” with 12,500 pounds of towing capacity and a max payload of 2,350 pounds.
General Motors in August sold more than 21,000 EVs, its highest monthly total ever. GM remains the #2 U.S. EV seller, driven by strong demand for the Equinox EV, the Silverado EV, the Cadillac LYRIQ, and the GMC Sierra EV. GM anticipates reporting strong demand once again in September. While GM expects a smaller EV market in the fourth quarter after the tax incentives expire, the company believes it can continue to grow EV market share.
In announcing the awards, Cars.com also said that new EV inventory grew 1.4% in August from a year ago. Average new EV prices climbed 4.1% over the same period as more premium models entered the market. Used EV inventory surged 38% from a year ago to 97 models, Cars.com said, but vehicles are spending just 46 days on the lot, down from 66 days a year earlier. Tesla, which makes up about one-third of used EV listings, saw average prices fall 16.2%, pulling the overall used-EV average down 3.8%.
