General Motors announced that Alan Wexler will retire as the company’s senior vice president, strategy and transformation, effective October 31. Wexler spent five years with GM, completing a career that spanned more than 40 years.

“Alan came out of retirement to join GM and brought his career experience of transformation to help accelerate our progress,” GM Chair and CEO Mary Barra said. “He and his team crystalized our strategic priorities, expanded our use of advanced data and insights, strengthened our relationships with major tech partners, and contributed to the culture to deliver on our strategy. He has been a trusted leader and partner to so many of us – and his impact will long outlast his time here.”

Wexler, who joined GM in August 2020, leads the company’s corporate strategy, enterprise data, analytics, and insights teams. Prior to joining GM, Wexler served as Chairman and CEO of Publicis Sapient. Before Publicis acquired Sapient, Wexler held leadership roles, including President and CEO of SapientNitro and CEO of SapientRazorfish.

The company also announced that Zach Kirkman will shift to the newly created role of Vice President, Strategy and Corporate Development, reporting to Barra. Kirkman has recently been deputy chief financial officer, responsible for treasury, GM Ventures, long-term strategic planning, and corporate development and M&A. Kirkman had previous corporate development roles at both Apple and Tesla.

“Zach will play a critical role with the Executive Strategy Team in driving the company’s strategic direction as well as acting as a catalyst for enterprise-wide alignment and execution,” Barra said.
