For the second year in a row, Buick was ranked the highest Overall Mass Market nameplate in the JD Power 2026 U.S. Vehicle Dependability Study (VDS), with Chevrolet taking third place in the same category. Cadillac ranked second place among premium brands.
General Motors works hard to deliver vehicles that customers rely on. The results of the JD Power 2026 U.S. VDS demonstrate that the company is succeeding.
The study – which is in its 37th year – measures vehicle quality by identifying problems owners of 3-year-old vehicles experience. For this year, JD Power surveyed 33,268 respondents about 2023 model-year vehicles.
“Third-party studies like the JD Power VDS are important because they give us an external view of how our vehicles are performing over time and how customers experience them in the real world,” said Marcos Purty, GM Vice President of Global Quality.
Four GM vehicles ranked at the top of their category:
Cadillac XT6 - Upper Midsize Premium SUV
Chevrolet Equinox - Compact SUV
Chevrolet Tahoe - Large SUV
Buick Enclave - Upper Midsize SUV
An additional eight GM vehicles ranked second or third in their category:
Buick Encore GX (third) – Small SUV
Buick Envision (second) – Compact SUV
Cadillac XT4 (second) – Compact Premium SUV
Cadillac XT5 (second) – Midsize Premium SUV
Chevrolet Blazer (second) – Midsize SUV
Chevrolet Silverado (second) – Large Light Duty Pickup
Chevrolet Traverse (third) - Upper Midsize SUV
GMC Sierra (third) – Large Light Duty Pickup
Awards like this are a great honor, of course, but they’re also a tool in the ongoing pursuit of quality. “We use these insights, alongside our internal data, to understand where we’re delivering for customers and where we must continue to improve,” Purty said.
