Going fast is hardwired into the mind of a professional racecar driver. It is, after all, their job, but it can cause some unexpected consequences beyond the track. Like for the camera operators tasked with following Cadillac Formula 1® Team driver Sergio Pérez in this new Cadillac commercial.
Here, Checo is behind the wheel of a Cadillac LYRIQ-V, the quickest vehicle in the brand’s history. With dual-motor all-wheel drive and 615 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque1, the LYRIQ-V can accelerate from 0-60 mph in 3.3 seconds2.
“I was truly impressed by the Cadillac LYRIQ-V’s power and performance—it’s incredible what an electric SUV can do,” said Sergio Pérez. “It’s exciting to see firsthand why this is the quickest vehicle in Cadillac’s more than 120-year history.”
The commercial was shot in Pérez’s hometown of Guadalajara, Mexico for the launch of the LYRIQ-V in Mexico. “We are thrilled to showcase the new LYRIQ-V with Checo Pérez behind the wheel in such a pivotal year that marks a turning point for Cadillac worldwide,” said, Maurice Jennings, Cadillac Global Brand Director. “The new LYRIQ-V complements Cadillac’s extraordinary portfolio of vehicles, delivering an exhilarating experience for a new generation of customers seeking innovation, modern luxury and high performance.”
Pérez, a six-time F1 race winner, will very soon hit the track with the new Cadillac Formula 1® Team. The Barcelona Shakedown test begins January 26 with testing then moving to Bahrain in February ahead of the season-opening Australian Grand Prix in March. There, the Cadillac Formula 1® Team will make history with the first grand-prix car from an American automaker on the grid.
Though, one wonders if they’ll have to pry Checo from his LYRIQ-V first.
1Cadillac estimated in Velocity Max.
2On a closed course only. Based on Initial Vehicle Movement (IVM).
