The moments after a collision are stressful. Many drivers aren’t sure what to do first — how to work with insurance, what to ask for in a repair, and where to go for help.

GM’s Collision Assistance experience in the GM vehicle mobile apps (myChevrolet, myGMC, myBuick and myCadillac) is designed to make those next steps clearer. The Collision Assistance experience is available to eligible GM owners in the U.S. through their vehicle mobile app1.

The tool guides drivers through the post-collision process, from documenting the incident to starting an insurance claim, and finding a repair facility that follows GM-recommended procedures. Nearly 17,000 police-reported car crashes occur in the U.S. every day, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, and for many of those drivers, having a clear path forward can reduce confusion and help them make more informed decisions.

Guidance and repair support in one place

Ultimately, it’s the customers who choose where to have their vehicle repaired, but your vehicle mobile app is a resource to help make that decision easier and more informed. Through the vehicle mobile app, Collision Assistance:

  • Helps drivers collect key details at the scene using the app’s camera and prompts.

  • Provides a step-by-step, self-paced experience that drivers can engage with when they are ready, without interrupting emergency calls.

  • Can connect customers to facilities in the GM Collision Repair Network. The network includes many independent body shops as well as GM dealership facilities that follow GM repair procedures to help promote safe and proper repairs.

These network facilities use specialized equipment, perform pre- and post-repair scans, and are guided by GM’s collision repair recommendations. They also have access to GM Genuine parts and ACDelco components, which are engineered specifically for GM vehicles to help support performance and the operation of safety systems over time.

For drivers, it means less time worrying about “what do I do now?” and more confidence their vehicle will be repaired properly.

New to the Collision Assistance tool is the self-discovery feature allowing drivers to initiate the Collision Assistance flow themselves in the app, offering drivers the flexibility of choosing when to take the next steps after a collision.

If they’re not ready to engage right away, a user can temporarily pause the experience in the app and come back to it later, launching Collision Assistance when ready. The goal is to provide help without interrupting safety-critical calls or on-scene decisions.

Helping drivers feel more confident after a collision

Collision Assistance, together with the GM Collision Repair Network and GM Genuine and ACDelco parts, is designed to support drivers from the moment a collision occurs through to a completed repair. By combining clear in-app guidance directing customers to repair facilities that follow GM-recommended procedures and use parts engineered for GM vehicles, the experience helps support vehicle systems, enables informed decision-making, and strengthens confidence in the GM ownership experience.
