General Motors today announced a $50 million commitment to support communities across Michigan through 2030, expanding the company’s long-standing investments in education, workforce development and community partnerships across the state.
This initiative builds on GM’s history of giving in Detroit and greater Michigan and reflects the company’s focus on helping create opportunity for students, educators and families.
GM’s giving in Michigan is focused on:
- Supporting PK-12 foundational skills through STEAM education
- Equipping educators with tools and resources
- Helping more people transition into skilled trades and in-demand careers
“GM believes strong communities are built through sustained investment and real partnership,” said David Massaron, vice president of Corporate Citizenship at General Motors. “This $50 million initiative reflects our belief in Michigan’s future and in the people and organizations working every day to expand opportunities. By supporting education, strengthening workforce pathways and partnering with trusted community organizations, we can help create lasting impact across the state.”
This announcement reflects GM’s long-standing presence in Michigan and our dedication to ensuring the future of the auto industry continues to grow here. GM has nearly 50,000 employees in Michigan and employs more workers than any other automaker in the U.S. This year alone, GM is investing $9 billion in the U.S. and an additional $7 billion in research and development. As we continue investing in our people, facilities, and technology, we are helping ensure the vehicles, skills and industrial capabilities needed for the future are found in Michigan.
GM is also investing in the future of work through skilled trades development and upskilling opportunities that help prepare people for careers in advanced manufacturing and related fields. Through apprenticeship pathways, hands-on training and programs such as Technical Learning University in Warren, GM is helping workers build the skills needed to succeed as technologies continue to evolve.
GM’s community impact in Michigan also extends beyond grants. Over the past five years, GM employees have contributed 530,000 volunteer hours and $10 million in donations to support local communities across the state.
Across Michigan, GM-supported programs help expand access to STEAM learning, strengthen support for educators, and connect more people to training and career opportunities that can shape long-term success.
