5,000 miles. Two EVs. Priceless real-world data.

A cross-country road trip is a great way to appreciate America’s amazing scenery. But when three General Motors engineers embarked earlier this year on a 5,000-plus-mile drive from Southeast Michigan to San Francisco and back, they weren’t just chasing views. Driving a Cadillac OPTIQ luxury SUV and a GMC Sierra EV pickup truck towing a loaded cargo trailer, they were gathering thousands of miles of real-world data that can’t be replicated with simulation.

That philosophy of continual innovation and improvement drives everything we do at General Motors. It’s how Cadillac Racing had its best season yet in international endurance racing. It led GM to dominate the 2025 J.D. Power Sales Satisfaction Survey, with Buick taking the top spot among mass-market brands.

Our commitment to excellence extends to our community. This week, GM News highlighted Shifting Gears, a partnership between General Motors and the U.S. Army to provide soldiers with the technical skills and personal and professional development support needed to help launch an automotive career. And we looked at how GM supports STEAM education – science, technology, engineering, the arts, and mathematics – through programs that advance technology education in secondary schools, trade schools, employee training programs, community colleges, and universities.

From the open road to the classroom, we’re always thinking of the next innovation.
