At GM, our electric pickups are built to handle truck stuff

2025-08-07

A good pickup truck is a can-do vehicle. Towing a trailer? No sweat. Hauling a bunch of stuff? Here for it. Taking the family on a road-trip adventure, or exploring off-road trails to get away from it all? Done and done.

When teams across General Motors designed and engineered today’s electric trucks, they made sure these vehicles were ready to handle all kinds of truck stuff – so you can rely on your EV. And we’re building them with more than 100 years of truck leadership behind every bolt, battery and line of code.

What sets GM’s trucks apart isn’t just strength; it’s intelligence. By pairing cutting-edge software with our purpose-built battery and propulsion platform, GM is delivering electric trucks that offer power, precision, and versatility for an excellent customer experience.

Tech for towing

With GM’s smart, capable electric trucks, towing a trailer is a breeze. It doesn’t matter if you’re pulling a family camper, a work trailer full of tools, or a hauler for your classic car. From hitching up to hitting the highway, GM technology and real-world testing make sure you’re ready for the ride.

Take the 2026 GMC Sierra EV Denali. Available four-wheel steering gives this pickup truck excellent maneuverability, crucial for hitching up or navigating tight quarters with your trailer in tow. New for 2026, Sierra EV Denali offers additional camera views specifically designed to make towing easy1 – including views to the side and behind your trailer. On-screen trailer path lines help you navigate tight turns, and turn-signal-activated cameras make lane-changes a breeze.

And with standard trailer-capable Super Cruise2 driver assistance technology, the 2026 Sierra EV Denali lets you drive hands-free on more than 600,000 miles of compatible roads throughout the U.S. and Canada. It’s the only advanced driver-assistance system capable of hands-free driving with a trailer – and it’s exclusive to GM vehicles.

With the available Extended Range battery, GMC Sierra Denali EV is rated to tow up to 12,500 pounds3. Or if range is what you need, the Sierra Denali EV with the available Max Range battery offers GM-estimated driving range up to 478 miles4, so you can road-trip with confidence.

And just like every electric GM pickup truck, the GMC Sierra Denali EV takes the hassle out of towing thanks to all-electric power. Near-instantly available torque and immediate acceleration without downshifting make it easier than ever to hit the road with your trailer in tow.

On-road range, off-road capability

The Chevy Silverado EV demonstrates the broad spectrum of capabilities that come with your super smart, super capable GM electric pickup truck – whether you’re racking up miles in a long day of driving or venturing off pavement for a wilderness retreat.

With EPA-estimated 493 miles4, the 2026 Silverado EV Max Range WT sets the standard as the range leader for electric trucks. But GM engineers pushed that even further – driving a Silverado EV WT 1,053 miles on a full charge, obliterating the EV range world record.

This world-beating EV achievement was done with a production 2026 Silverado EV Max Range WT with no major modifications, driven on public roads. When it was safe to do so, drivers were advised to maintain an average speed of 20-25 mph and to minimize any hard braking or quick acceleration. For the majority of the test, only the driver was in the truck. The windshield wiper blades were set to the lowest acceptable position to reduce drag. Tires were inflated to their highest acceptable pressure for lower rolling resistance. The spare tire was removed to lighten the vehicle. The wheel alignment was optimized. An accessory tonneau cover was added for smooth airflow. Climate control was turned off for the duration of the test. And finally, the test was performed in summer for optimum ambient temperature for battery efficiency

Careful route-planning and ultra-efficient driving by GM engineers took this Silverado EV WT far beyond its normally expected battery range. While you probably wouldn’t want to drive like this on your daily commute, this challenge was just one example of how GM engineers push the limit, testing vehicles far beyond the typical driving experience to build the best vehicles possible.

But GM’s all-electric trucks aren’t just built for pavement. They’re engineered to take you off the beaten path. Check out the Silverado EV ZR2 concept race truck. Built to test the Silverado EV in the high-stakes, extreme conditions of off-road racing, this concept truck was hand-built by GM engineers to compete at the Mint 400 desert race. Standard production-spec parts make up 98% of this truck – including the stock Silverado EV Max Range battery and in-house designed electric motors.

Running the Silverado EV ZR2 concept race truck at the Mint 400 gave GM engineers valuable data that can only be recorded in real-world extreme testing. Chevy has a long history of using motorsports to develop high-performance parts and accessories for production vehicles. The 2026 Silverado EV Trail Boss is Chevy’s first all-electric off-road model, built to tackle tough terrain.

Supertruck performance thanks to super-smart software

The GMC HUMMER EV5 was designed to be a supertruck, and for 2026, it just gets better. The 2026 HUMMER EV Carbon Fiber Edition Pickup features our quickest HUMMER EV acceleration ever6, launching from 0 to 60 mph in approximately 2.8 seconds7 with Watts to Freedom mode engaged8. That’s an improvement of 0.2 seconds, all thanks to continuous software development, calibration, and deep integration between multiple vehicle sub-systems working seamlessly to push the boundaries of our propulsion hardware. With HUMMER EV, you don’t have to choose between a sports car and a pickup truck – you can have supercar acceleration and pickup-truck capability in one machine.

The 2026 HUMMER EV also gets more capable thanks to a new drive mode, King Crab9, designed to offer excellent maneuverability for tight off-road trails. Leveraging HUMMER EV’s advanced rear-wheel steering capability, King Crab mode unlocks additional rear-wheel steering angle. With King Crab engaged, for every 1 degree of front wheel steering, the rear wheels turn 2 degrees, and it’s only possible thanks to the HUMMER EV’s all-electric drivetrain and cutting-edge suspension design.

King Crab comes standard on all 2X and 3X model-year 2026 HUMMER EVs. And thanks to GM’s super-smart software, King Crab mode is available for model-year 2022 through 2025 HUMMER EVs. With an upcoming over-the-air (OTA) software update, King Crab is just a few taps of the touchscreen away for existing HUMMER EV owners to experience the latest capabilities in the all-electric supertruck they know and love.

Just like the rest of the GM electric truck lineup, the HUMMER EV offers advanced capabilities and cutting-edge technology. From adaptive air-ride suspension to available hands-free Super Cruise driver assistance technology2 on approved routes, HUMMER EV has the extreme capability that GM truck owners expect, on road or off.
