GM has been recognized countless times for its vehicle design and engineering excellence and today celebrates a new set of awards from Autoblog.com. A Chevrolet and a GMC took top honors for this year’s Autoblog review, with eight other GM vehicles ranked in the top three for their respective categories.
“Our test drivers spend countless hours behind the wheel of new vehicles, putting them through their paces in the real world, and their firsthand experiences were invaluable in separating cars that are otherwise closely matched on the spec sheet,” says Autoblog Co-Editor-in-Chief Adam Lynton.
Best Off-Road Truck: Chevrolet Colorado ZR2
The 2027 Colorado ZR2 is equipped with a 2.7L I-4 Turbo engine making up to 310 horsepower and 430 lb.-ft. of torque. Multimatic DSSV dampers (standard on the ZR2) offer smooth, capable driving over various types of terrain and other features like power-locking front and rear differentials, five selectable drive modes and off-road performance display, 17-inch wheels wrapped with 33-inch MT tires, and 3-inch factory-installed lift with high-performance suspension add up to an experience like no other.
Autoblog Senior Editor Sebastian Cenizo told GM why the Colorado ZR2 earned its title.
"The Chevy Colorado ZR2 is for the individual who wants a capable daily driver but also wants to go off-road without getting stuck,” Cenizo says. “Other, more extreme trucks are only truly at home off-road, and better daily drivers exist, but this fills the middle ground beautifully and is the right size for most garages."
Best Premium Budget Truck: GMC Sierra 1500
For 2027, the next-generation GMC Sierra 1500 boasts sixth-generation Small Block V8 power, a new benchmark in premium design, advanced technology and GM’s new user interface. The Sierra 1500 is available with four available engine choices ranging from a 2.7L TurboMax offering 350 horsepower and 455 lb.-ft. of torque all the way up to an available 6.6L V8 which offers 481 horsepower and 501 lb.-ft. of torque, all paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission. With the new 6.6L Small Block V8, the Sierra 1500 offers the most powerful naturally aspirated V8 in its class1, the largest-displacement V8 in its class1 and GMC’s most powerful half-ton V8 ever1.
The Autoblog team recognized the 2027 GMC Sierra 1500’s refined, upscale design and excellent tech and engine lineup.

For over two decades, Autoblog has been a leading source of automotive news, reviews, and industry insights and delivers expert analysis, hands-on vehicle reviews, and breaking news.
In selecting the best cars, SUVs, and pickups for 2027, Autoblog’s team of seasoned motoring journalists, editors, and automotive experts evaluated hundreds of models available to U.S. buyers.
“We developed three distinct criteria for each segment, tailored to what matters most in that category—be it charging ease for EVs or driver appeal for sports cars,” Lynton says. “Each vehicle received a rating out of five for each criterion. We also considered other aspects of the vehicle ownership experience that matter across the market, including safety scores, comparisons to immediate rivals, and practicality.”
