A virtual Grand Prix

In June 2025, the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya was alive with the sounds of the Spanish Grand Prix. The people behind the Cadillac Formula 1® Team were hard at work, but they weren’t in Spain – they were working with simulation experts thousands of miles away at the Charlotte Technical Center, the state-of-the-art GM Motorsports facility in Charlotte, North Carolina. There, the Cadillac Formula 1® Team collaborated with GM Motorsports to run a simulated, real-time race, concurrent with the Spanish Grand Prix.

Using in-depth simulation technology, the Cadillac Formula 1® Team was able to gather priceless data and experience. Call it a virtual practice run – one that will play a crucial role when the team takes to the track next year.

This simulator practice is a huge part of the preparation ahead of Cadillac’s debut in Formula 1® in the 2026 racing season. In the latest episode of GM’s YouTube documentary series, “What Makes Fast: Cadillac’s Road to F1®,” we go behind the scenes to watch this virtual race unfold.
